My cat keeps having these 'mad half hours'?

I find he's like this when he's had a lot of sleep. My 11 month old boy cat was in most of the day yesterday sleeping and during the evening. When bedtime came for us humans, he ran riot nearly all night long. He ran up the stairs with my feather duster, carried up a ball of string and intertwined the string all around the posts of the bed, jumped on top of my quilt and attacked my feet, jumped off the bed again and jumped on top of my wardrobe and then on to the bannister. When it was time for me to get up this morning, he kept going for my ankles! Is this all normal? Then after a while, he'll fall asleep!
