Are Laptop keyboards from ebay worth buying?

The keyboard on my Toshiba laptop shorted out. Are keyboards on ebay cheap replacements or are they quality products? I really don't want a new keyboard that is klinkey cheap and has that plastic smell. I ordered a kensington lock for my laptop a while ago and had to throw it away the smell was so strong. please let me know what your experiences are with this type of thing. I did send a message to one of the suppliers and didn't get much of an answer. Thanks
