Is my cat different to the other cats?

someone told me cats had 9 lives, so i threw my cat out the window and he died. he's only a young cat so i doubt he's used 8 lives yet. is my dead cat different? i'm planning on getting a new cat, how do i know if this one has all 9 lives. i dont want to be ripped off again. should i keep throwing cats out my window till one lives? thanks for your help :)
