Windows vista desktop shuts off randomly?

I have a humming problem with my power supply fan. Mine just makes noise without any other trouble, but if your PSU is seriously wonked, that could account for both the humming (PSU fan) and the shutdowns (sudden loss of power from faulty power supply unit).
