LED power supply, what do I need?

Any AC supply with a DC output of about 7 or so volts and at least 800 ma will do fine. Yes you can use what we across the puddle call aligator clips for testing and then may want to consider a plug/socket connection later. You may need about a 1k 1/2 watt resistor ahead of the diode for current limiting.
