I'm a nice person.Why is God so destructive?

I'm good to my wife and kids, give to the poor, I'm not cruel to animals, I treat my customers and suppliers fairly. Most people would say I'm a good, decent person. BUT I don't for one minute believe in god, or yahweh or mormon, or mohammed, or what ever fairy tail creature you might pick. What sort of god would send me to eternal damnation for this? AND if such a god existed, wouldn't I be obliged to resist him on moral principals (the same way that the free French resisted Hitler) rather than worship him?
