How to make new friends at a new school when your kinda shy?

(I'm using my dusters account btw, she left her phone on ;P) anyways, I didn't get accepted to my school u wanted to go to, and I have 2 options, a huge school or a smaller school. I still need to pick one but each one I only know about 3 or 4 ppl who go there and I'm really scared. How can I make friends when I'm kinda shy? Not trying to be mean but I'm not ugly, and people like me but I get really shy around new people :( tips and help please!!!! Thanks!
